Subnautica 2's next major update will add the 'scariest region' the devs have ever made

Subnautica 2's next major update will add the 'scariest region' the devs have ever made

Developer Unknown Worlds is charting a course for what it calls "Early Access 2.0" for Subnautica 2, promising a major new update packed with fresh horrors and features.

Creative director Anthony Gallegos revealed details in a video, per Eurogamer. The headline addition is a brand new playable region that Gallegos called "one of our scariest regions we've ever done." He described it as dark, threatening, and beautiful all at once.

PC Gamer reports the region will contain several new biomes and bring new story elements concerning the colonists of the Cicada and the game's "other beings." New Leviathan behaviors are also planned, with the Collector Leviathan slated to become "scarier than ever."

Players will get new tools to navigate the depths. A significant quality-of-life change, noted by Rock Paper Shotgun, makes the dash ability a default feature when wearing fins, removing the need to equip it as a biomod. A new "Frog" chassis for the Tadpole submersible will also be added, effectively giving the vehicle arms and legs.

Other additions include new biomods, new base-building options like a round room, and further story content. Unknown Worlds has not provided a release date or window for this substantial update.
