Crystal Lake finale brings back Baghead Jason and rewrites iconic kill

The final episode of the Peacock series "Crystal Lake" has finally revealed the monster in the woods, per TVLine. It's not Pamela Voorhees, but her son Jason, sporting the burlap sack look from "Friday the 13th: Part 2." According to the finale, the boy's body was never found, and his massive size is a side effect of drugs pumped into him by the Bellflower Chemical company.

According to TVLine's recap, the episode culminates in a showdown where Jason's father, Elias, is killed by his own son, who literally squeezes his head until it cracks open. Jason then turns on his mother, Pamela, grabbing her by the throat before releasing her and disappearing into the woods.

The finale also shows a group of new counselors telling ghost stories by a fire, with the classic "ki-ki-ki, ma-ma-ma" sounds heard in the darkness, setting the stage for the franchise's future.

In related series news, Collider reports that the show rewrites one of the original film's most famous scenes. The opening kill from the 1980 "Friday the 13th," where counselors Barry and Claudette are murdered, is recreated but with a major twist.

Instead of Pamela Voorhees being the killer, the series reveals the assailant to be a preteen girl named Grace, Jason's only friend, seeking revenge. This change alters the iconic moment that originally set Pamela on her murderous path.
