Disney CEO makes case for 'Mandalorian and Grogu' and 'Moana' box office flops

Disney CEO makes case for 'Mandalorian and Grogu' and 'Moana' box office flops

Disney has acknowledged a pair of its recent tentpoles fell short at the box office. According to The Hollywood Reporter and /Film, executives conceded that both 'Star Wars: The Mandalorian & Grogu' and the live-action 'Moana' underperformed.

CEO Josh D'Amaro, however, offered a defense for the Star Wars film. He argued it served as a successful 'portfolio booster' for the broader franchise, per THR.

The comments come as Disney faces questions about its recent slate of big-budget releases. The studio is now in the position of having to spin high-profile financial disappointments.
