Final Fantasy 7 Director Acknowledges 'Open World Fatigue' Ahead of New Release

The director of the next Final Fantasy 7 chapter says the team is trying to avoid the burnout gamers feel from endless open worlds. According to IGN, Naoki Hamaguchi noted the industry's 'open world fatigue' but promises Square Enix was 'very careful' with design.

The upcoming installment, Revelation, will feature an even 'bigger' world than its predecessor, Rebirth. However, Hamaguchi claims the developers are focused on providing 'all the guidance' players need to navigate it without feeling lost or overwhelmed.

It's a direct response to a common complaint in modern gaming, aiming to keep the epic scale without the exhausting grind.
