Final Fantasy 7 Remake director laments potential end of physical games
PlayStation's move away from physical discs has hit a nerve with one of gaming's big names. Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy director Naoki Hamaguchi is sounding the alarm, saying the end of boxed games would erase a vital piece of culture.
Hamaguchi told IGN that a shift to all-digital releases "would be a real shame for that culture to disappear." His comments come after Sony's controversial decision to stop producing physical discs for the PlayStation 5.
For a project as massive and beloved as the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy, the director clearly sees physical media as more than just plastic. He's framing it as a crucial artifact of how we experience games.
