Sony drops another PS5 update in ongoing jailbreak clash before GTA 6

Sony drops another PS5 update in ongoing jailbreak clash before GTA 6

Sony has rolled out a new PS5 system update, marking the second such patch in under two weeks. According to IGN, this continues a back-and-forth struggle with hackers trying to jailbreak the console, especially with Grand Theft Auto 6's launch approaching.

The homebrew scene recently scored a major win with a jailbreak that worked on consoles running older software versions, a situation IGN notes was a huge security concern for Sony. The ability to modify a console can enable piracy.

However, new game updates began requiring newer firmware, restarting the cycle. As reported by IGN, one hacker has demonstrated a potential jailbreak for a recent firmware version, but later indicated it couldn't extract full game files.

Push Square reports that Sony's latest update has a single, security-focused patch note, clearly aimed at these exploits. The outlet suggests the company is taking no risks before GTA 6 arrives, as there is speculation the blockbuster may require the latest firmware to run.
