Hideo Kojima's Physint jumps from PlayStation to Xbox after Sony cancellation
In a major platform shuffle, Hideo Kojima's upcoming game Physint has found a new publisher in Xbox after being dropped by PlayStation. IGN reports that Kojima's studio received notice from PlayStation Studios in mid-June that the action-espionage project was being cancelled.
Per a statement from Kojima posted on X, the team spent three months searching for a new partner. "We found in XBOX a partner with whom we share a common vision for the future, and we have decided to team up with them once again," he wrote, according to the outlet.
PlayStation confirmed the split in its own statement, saying it made "the difficult decision to step away from collaborating." The company added it continues to admire Kojima's vision and looks forward to future collaboration.
Xbox CEO Asha Sharma called it an honor that Kojima chose Xbox for Physint. Variety adds that the partnership will extend beyond games to include film and television projects. The horror game OD, another Kojima Productions title, remains an Xbox publishing deal.
Kojima has described Physint as a genre-defining action-espionage title that is "both a game and a movie at the same time." IGN notes that development is ongoing, with actors Charlee Fraser, Don Lee, and Minami Hamabe confirmed to be involved.
