Joel Coen's 'Jack of Spades' gothic mystery snapped up by Netflix for 2027

Netflix has grabbed the global rights to Joel Coen's upcoming film 'Jack of Spades', per Variety. The streamer plans a theatrical launch in the fall of 2027 before it hits the platform.
The gothic mystery is set in the 1880s Scottish Highlands and is based on a 1901 novel by Frances Frederica Montrésor. The script has multiple authors, including Eleanor Catton and Conor McPherson alongside both Joel and Ethan Coen.
The cast is packed with award winners, including Josh O'Connor, Patsy Ferran, Damian Lewis, and Lesley Manville. As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, Netflix sees the project as a major contender for the following awards season.
According to Variety, the film finished shooting in Glasgow late last year. The deal concludes a sales process that began last summer.
This marks Coen's second solo directing effort after 'The Tragedy of Macbeth' and his second project with Netflix following the anthology 'The Ballad of Buster Scruggs'.
