The actor was speaking at an event in his hometown when asked about reports linking him to the iconic spy role. O’Connor called it extraordinary to be mentioned alongside other contenders, which the outlet says include Callum Turner and Jack Lowden.

He ultimately shut down further discussion, stating, "I am afraid there is nothing to say beyond that." His comments follow those of fellow contender Jack Lowden, who recently told British GQ he found the rumors flattering but declined to elaborate on them.

Meanwhile, former Bond Pierce Brosnan has weighed in, offering particular praise for Callum Turner. In a Vanity Fair interview, Brosnan said Turner is "so strong" and admired all the actors reportedly in the mix. He also expressed excitement for director Denis Villeneuve’s take on the franchise, calling it "truly magnificent."
