Michael Jackson biopic Michael becomes first billion-dollar music movie

The King of Pop has made box office history. Lionsgate's film Michael, starring Jaafar Jackson as the late superstar, has officially surpassed $1 billion globally, according to reports from Collider and JoBlo. That makes it the first biopic ever to cross that massive financial milestone.

Directed by Antoine Fuqua, the movie is now also the highest-grossing biopic of all time, moonwalking past all previous contenders. Per JoBlo, the studio is already teasing details about a potential sequel, riding high on this unprecedented success.

The film's performance proves the enduring power of the Michael Jackson legacy, with audiences worldwide flocking to see the story brought to life by the icon's own nephew.
