'Other Mommy' Dominates Box Office Previews With $3.6 Million Haul

Jessica Chastain's new horror movie is off to a scary good start. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Universal's 'Other Mommy' grabbed $3.6 million from Thursday night previews.
The chiller, directed by Rob Savage, is about a sinister entity that appears in a young girl's closet. It's set to open in 3,200 theaters across North America. The studio is projecting a $20 million opening weekend for the film, which was produced on a modest $19 million budget.
Meanwhile, the other major new release is struggling to connect. Per THR, Aaron Sorkin's 'The Social Reckoning,' a fact-based follow-up to 'The Social Network,' only managed $650,000 in previews. The Sony Pictures film is expected to open to around $7 million this weekend from 2,600 theaters.
JoBlo also reported the preview numbers, noting the stark difference between the two films. 'The Social Reckoning' stars Jeremy Strong, Mikey Madison, and Jeremy Allen White in a thriller about a Facebook staffer and a journalist exposing company secrets.
While 'Other Mommy' appears poised to win the weekend, Sorkin hinted at the potential for more Facebook stories. In a conversation with The Hollywood Reporter, he said if a good story came along set at the social media giant, he'd be open to making a third film.
