Other Mommy Eyes Big Opening as Next Horror Box Office Phenom

According to a report from /Film, the upcoming horror flick "Other Mommy" is tracking for a strong opening weekend next Friday. Projections from Box Office Theory suggest the film could haul in anywhere from $28.5 million to $35 million.
That would put it between two recent horror titans. The report notes the A24 film "Backrooms" debuted to a massive $81.4 million, while the sleeper hit "Obsession" opened more modestly but went on to cross $500 million globally.
Should "Other Mommy" hit its target, it would land closer to another recent success, the $30 million debut of "$28 Years Later." The new film stars Jessica Chastain in a story about a girl named Bela who encounters a creepy doppelgänger of her mother.
The film's director, Rob Savage, has a proven hit under his belt with the Stephen King adaptation "The Boogeyman," which earned $82 million worldwide. Chastain herself is no stranger to horror hits, having starred in the blockbuster "It: Chapter Two."
Produced by Blumhouse and Atomic Monster, "Other Mommy" is poised to be a solid performer. Its potential to have a long run in theaters, however, will depend on audience reception. The film arrives in theaters on October 9, 2026.
