Ryan Murphy's 'The Shards' Fate Unclear Weeks After FX Finale

FX has yet to decide on a second season for Ryan Murphy's series 'The Shards', leaving fans hanging after a cliffhanger finale. The Hollywood Reporter notes the network is known for taking its time on renewal decisions.
The show, based on Bret Easton Ellis's novel, was pitched by Murphy as a multi-season story. He told the outlet he deeply connected to the 1981 setting, calling it the most important year of his life.
Linear TV ratings were modest, per THR, with streaming numbers not publicly released by FX. The outlet reports it's another Murphy FX project this year, following 'The Beauty', to end unresolved without a renewal.
Murphy maintains a major production agreement with Disney's 20th Television and a history with FX. According to The Hollywood Reporter, if 'The Shards' returns, it may hinge more on that relationship than breakout ratings.
