Tom Cruise Hosts Royals at 'Digger' Premiere as Critics Pan the Movie
Tom Cruise rolled out the red carpet for royalty at the London world premiere of his new film 'Digger.' According to Variety, Prince William and Princess Catherine of Wales were in attendance as Cruise premiered Alejandro González Iñárritu's satirical black comedy.
Unfortunately for the star, the royal seal of approval wasn't matched by early press reactions. Per Variety, the film has left film journalists divided, with some calling it 'baffling' and 'unpleasant.'
/SFilm reports that the movie stars Cruise as the world's most powerful man trying to stop an apocalypse he started. The film boasts a cast including Sandra Hüller, Riz Ahmed, and John Goodman, with a hefty $125 million budget from Warner Bros.
Early social media reactions from critics have been brutal. Per /Film, independent journalist Mike Ryan found the film 'kind of generally unpleasant' with 'baffling' plot choices. Matt Neglia of Next Best Picture called it a 'hollow misfire,' while Award Radar's Joey Magidson labeled it 'a mess' that 'wasn't enjoyable.'
At least one critic disagreed. Good Day Chicago's Jake Hamilton declared it his favorite film of 2026. Audiences will get to judge for themselves when 'Digger' hits theaters on October 2, 2026.
