Universal to turn Asteroids, Pong into movies after landing Atari rights
Universal is trying to build a blockbuster out of video game blocks. Per JoBlo, the studio has snapped up the movie rights to ten classic Atari games, including Asteroids, Missile Command, Pong, and Centipede.
They're already developing the first film from the retro-game haul. This comes after decades of Hollywood trying to turn arcade hits into cinema gold.
Details are scarce, but the lineup reads like a shopping list from the golden age of arcades. The question is how you turn something like Pong, a game with two paddles and a dot, into a two-hour feature film.
