Wife and Dog Teaser: Benedict Cumberbatch and Rosamund Pike Lead Guy Ritchie's Aristocratic Succession Thriller
Black Bear has released the first teaser for Wife and Dog, Guy Ritchie's thriller about a British aristocratic family tearing itself apart, with Benedict Cumberbatch and Rosamund Pike at the center of the fight. The film opens in theaters on February 19, 2027 in the US, the UK and Ireland. Anthony Hopkins, Cosmo Jarvis, James Norton, Paddy Considine and Pip Torrens round out the cast.
The teaser gives away very little on purpose. It introduces the Fairbank family, a dynasty whose lavish public face hides a bitter feud over who inherits what, and hints at blackmail, deception and murder as old grudges surface, per ComingSoon. A voiceover about a man who, instead of climbing up, dug down and kept digging until he found himself in hell sets the tone, which FirstShowing describes as darkly comic. The site's Alex Billington called it a proper teaser, one that builds intrigue without showing the film.
Ritchie wrote and directed Wife and Dog and produces it with Ivan Atkinson and John Friedberg. Black Bear Pictures and Ritchie's Toff Guy Films are behind it, and Black Bear is distributing on both sides of the Atlantic. The official synopsis promises a return to the colourful, back-stabbing world of the British aristocracy, following the relentless greed of the Fairbank family and their associates as it fuels betrayal and murder in the battle for succession.
The film shot in the UK starting in February 2025 and was originally dated for October 23, 2026 before Black Bear moved it to February, so the teaser arrives a full five months ahead of release. Skip The Critics will begin tracking pre-release reaction to Wife and Dog as the date approaches, and the audience score will form from the people who actually see it once it opens.
