Wolverine Slashes to Top of US Sales, Gives PS5 a 43% Revenue Boost

Marvel's Wolverine clawed its way to the top of the US sales charts in September, according to reports from Eurogamer and Push Square. Despite a mixed reception from critics, the PS5 exclusive was the month's best-selling new game.
The data from market firm Circana, reported by Eurogamer, shows the Insomniac title delivered Sony's biggest launch month in dollar sales since Helldivers 2 debuted in early 2024. Analysts noted Helldivers 2 had the advantage of a simultaneous PC launch and a lower price.
The game's success seemingly powered a hardware surge, with PS5 dollar sales up 43% year-over-year. Per Circana, the console led the month in both units and revenue. In contrast, Xbox unit sales fell to their lowest ever for a September.
The month was packed with major new titles. The top ten list for September was dominated by fresh releases, featuring action RPGs like The Blood of Dawnwalker, a new Onimusha entry, the aerial combat of Ace Combat 8, and the Switch 2's Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave.
In a separate milestone, NBA 2K27 reportedly became the best-selling game of 2026 so far, though analysts expect Grand Theft Auto VI to claim that crown upon its November release.
