World War Z sequel finally moving ahead with Brad Pitt and director Edward Berger
The long-dormant sequel to World War Z is officially back on the menu. According to reports from Variety and The Hollywood Reporter, Brad Pitt is set to return to star in the film for Paramount.
Oscar-winning director Edward Berger, known for his work on the war drama All Quiet on the Western Front, has signed on to direct. Per the outlets, Berger recently collaborated with Pitt on the A24 thriller The Riders, which is currently in post-production.
Dennis Kelly, the playwright behind Matilda: The Musical, has written the script. Plot details are being kept secret. Pitt will also produce the project through his Plan B banner alongside Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner, with Berger executive producing.
The sequel has been in a state of development hell for over a decade, with previous attempts involving directors like David Fincher falling apart. MovieWeb notes that the project became a top priority for Paramount after Skydance acquired the studio in 2025.
No release date has been set. The original 2013 film, starring Pitt as a UN employee racing to stop a zombie pandemic, grossed over $540 million worldwide.
