Late Fame
At the very end of the 1970s, post office worker Ed Saxberger wrote a book of poetry that nobody cared about. After an eager and flattering fan appears on his doorstep, Saxberger is beckoned into a coterie of young admirers who anoint him a rediscovered genius. The group of downtown bohemians is led by their "tragic heroine," Gloria. Intoxicated by the attention, and Gloria's alluring presence, Saxberger gradually reckons with the authenticity of his newfound poetic circle.

What people are saying
Updated nightlyWillem Dafoe gives a masterful, lived-in performance as Ed Saxberger, the forgotten poet who gets swept up by a group of young bohemians led by Greta Lee's Gloria, and he's the main reason people are watching. While the story of an older man's seduction by sudden, hollow fame is compelling, it gets bogged down in its own melancholy and loses some viewers in the middle. The director's choices seem to have really split the room, but the acting, especially from Dafoe, is almost universally praised.
