This is the rambunctious, ridiculous and totally true story of how the Minions conquered Hollywood, became movie stars, lost everything, unleashed monsters onto the world and then banded together to try and save the planet from the mayhem they had just created.
The real review
It's a fun, dumb Minions movie, and that's enough for most people. The humor lands hard, with the Minions' chaos and visual gags being the main attraction — the story of them accidentally unleashing monsters and then trying to save the planet is fine, if familiar. A vocal few, however, really hated the central "Minions & Monsters" gimmick and found the pacing rough. Jesse Eisenberg's neurotic Dort is a standout in the voice cast, while other big names like Allison Janney and Christoph Waltz barely register.
