Twenty-six years after outrunning a suspiciously familiar masked killer, the Core Four are back in the killer's crosshairs and no horror movie IP is safe.

This new Scary Movie lands with a thud for most, feeling like a joke that's decades past its expiration date. The humor, which is the whole point, is called out as painfully stale, and the story about the Core Four being hunted again is slammed as unoriginal and barely there. The returning cast, like Anna Faris as Cindy and Marlon Wayans playing multiple roles, gets a mixed reception at best, though Regina Hall's Brenda and the general idea of the Wayans brothers get a few nostalgic nods. Ultimately, it reads like a hollow rehash that even fans of the franchise find tough to defend.
