Moana answers the Ocean's call and, for the first time, voyages beyond the reef of her island of Motunui with the infamous demigod Maui on an unforgettable journey to restore prosperity to her people.
The real review
People mostly feel like they've seen this before — the story's a retread, and the lack of originality is a real problem. Dwayne Johnson's Maui gets a bit of love, and the visuals are fine, but Catherine Lagaʻaia's Moana doesn't quite land with the same force. It's a split, negative-leaning reception, where even the humor that works can't save a plot that feels overly familiar.
