The launch week for Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave on Switch 2 has been marked by a bizarre run on bananas at Walmart, according to a report from Kotaku.
The chaos stems from a discount tip shared by gaming deal account Wario64. The account posted a Walmart promotion for $10 off online orders and noted fans could use it on the $70 digital version of the strategy RPG. When the code failed, Wario64 suggested a workaround: adding a single banana to the cart.
Players quickly took the advice, sharing photos of their game purchases alongside a solitary banana. While the exact number of banana-aided purchases is unknown, Walmart's online banana listing was reportedly marked as out of stock.
The report also notes that physical copies of Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave are in low supply at Walmart and have been out of stock at times on Amazon since launch. Kotaku speculates whether this is due to high demand or low production from Nintendo, drawing a parallel to similar shortages seen with Pokémon Pokopia.
