AMC Greenlights 'Point Break' TV Series With New Heist Crew
AMC is officially sending a new wave of Ex-Presidents to TV. The network has given a series order to a "Point Break" follow-up for AMC and AMC+, Variety reports.
The show is a modern update set more than three decades after the 1991 film. Per the logline, a new heist crew inspired by the original Ex-Presidents has emerged, forcing the FBI to turn to a mysterious former pro surfer with a troubled past to go undercover.
According to TheWrap, the first season will consist of eight episodes. Production is scheduled to begin in early 2027.
The series hails from co-showrunners and executive producers Dave Kalstein and Christopher C. Rogers. Lead studio Alcon Television Group is producing alongside AMC Studios and StudioCanal, which will handle international distribution.
In a statement obtained by Variety, AMC Studios president Dan McDermott said the greenlight came from combining the original film with a "powerhouse creative team" and clear fan interest. Showrunners Kalstein and Rogers called the film a "wild cinematic sermon" they are honored to carry forward.
