Disney+ renews supernatural teen drama 'Coven Academy' for a second season

Disney has given the green light for a second season of its young adult series 'Coven Academy,' according to reports from Variety and TVLine. The show, created by Tim Federle, is set in a magical boarding school in New Orleans.

TVLine reports the series stars Malina Weissman as Briar, a new student at Crescent Veil Academy who bonds with fellow witches Sasha (Jordan Leftwich) and Tegan (Ora Duplass). The cast also includes Tiffani Thiessen as the headmistress, Miss Graves, and Louis Thresher as a vampire named Ollie.

The first season finale left several major plot threads dangling. Per TVLine, it revealed Miss Graves is Briar's biological mother, while Sasha's brother Mason is alive and a vampire. A dark cloud also formed over the school, hinting at future danger.

Showrunner Tim Federle told TVLine about potential Season 2 storylines. He said Briar will likely confront Miss Graves about her past, Ollie may return home to reveal his vampirism to his family, and Tegan will support McKenna through her transition.

Federle, who serves as showrunner with Todd Slavkin and Darren Swimmer, also executive produces the series.
