Blade Runner 2049 Tops Streaming Charts Years After Box Office Flop
Denis Villeneuve's 2017 sci-fi sequel 'Blade Runner 2049' is having a major moment on streaming. According to a report from Collider, the film is currently the number one movie on the HBO Max platform globally.
This resurgence comes despite the movie's initial performance in theaters, where it was considered a financial disappointment. The film, starring Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford, serves as a follow-up to Ridley Scott's original 'Blade Runner'.
Its renewed popularity online has helped pave the way for more projects in the franchise. An upcoming Prime Video series titled 'Blade Runner 2099' is now in development.
Villeneuve himself is staying busy in major franchises. The director is currently finishing the 'Dune' saga and is also set to helm the next installment in the James Bond series for Amazon.
