Call of Duty franchise hits $40 billion in lifetime revenue

The Call of Duty series has blasted past a massive financial milestone. According to a report from IGN, the franchise's lifetime revenue has now exceeded $40 billion.

This news follows the launch of its 23rd mainline game, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, which arrived last Friday. Xbox CEO Asha Sharma announced the figure on social media, alongside a graphic celebrating the new game.

IGN notes that a Grand Theft Auto 5 comparison illustrates the scale, as that single title has generated over $10 billion in 13 years. The upcoming GTA 6 is reportedly projected to bring in $5.2 billion in its first week.

The military shooter franchise is also set to expand beyond gaming. A Call of Duty movie directed by Peter Berg is scheduled for a theatrical release on June 30, 2028.
