Charlie Hunnam Clarifies 'Sons of Anarchy' Spinoff Is a Meta Adventure
Charlie Hunnam wants fans to know his new project is not what they might expect. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the actor stressed that the upcoming 'Sons of Anarchy' limited series is "definitely not season eight."
According to the report, Hunnam developed the idea with Jonathan Groff. The show, described as a "meta-thriller," will feature the original actors playing fictionalized versions of themselves, not their iconic biker characters. The cast from the original series is set to return.
The story, per FX's announcement, finds the actors reuniting at a fan convention more than a decade later. There, they face a real-world threat that blurs the lines between their lives and the show they once starred in.
Hunnam told THR the concept came to him from a series of dreams about working with his former co-stars again. TVLine also reports that FX Entertainment President Nick Grad called Hunnam's pitch a "bold and entertaining vision."
The original series creator, Kurt Sutter, is not involved but has publicly given the project his blessing after reading part of the script.
