Diablo 5 announced for 2029, Netflix series and Diablo 4 Switch 2 port confirmed
Blizzard unleashed a hellish amount of news at BlizzCon 2026, headlined by the official announcement of Diablo 5. According to IGN, Game Director Joe Shely confirmed the sequel is already in full production and will launch in spring 2029.
Per the IGN interview, the story jumps 100 years into a future where Diablo has won, with the Lord of Terror sitting on the throne of Westmarch. The developers promised more character classes than any previous Diablo game at launch, with the Demon Hunter and Monk confirmed as returning classes. A new class called the Plague Knight, described as spreading and consuming disease for power, was also revealed.
Procedural generation is making a major comeback, affecting both the overworld and dungeons to create a constantly shifting, dangerous Sanctuary. Narrative Director Jennifer Hepler told IGN the team wanted Diablo to be central to the entire campaign, not just a final boss.
In related news, multiple outlets reported a Diablo animated series is in development at Netflix. For Diablo 4, Blizzard announced the Amazon class will return as a separate DLC pack next year, and a Switch 2 port titled the 'Age of Hatred Collection' is coming soon.
Finally, Kotaku and PC Gamer report that while Diablo 4 will continue to receive seasonal support, the team has no plans for further major expansions as development focus shifts toward the sequel.
