Ed Boon asks fans to vote on the title for the next Mortal Kombat game

Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon is polling the community on what to name the upcoming fighter, per IGN. On social media, he asked fans to choose between "Mortal Kombat 13," "Mortal Kombat 12," and "Mortal Kombat 2." The early results showed "Mortal Kombat 2" as the leading choice.

Boon previously confirmed the next game in the franchise was in development in May 2026. This new poll marks a rare public tease from the developer after a quiet period for the series.

He also posted a second, more curious poll about Marvel fighting games. It asks which title fans would prefer to see next: a sequel to Marvel Tokon by Arc System Works or a new Marvel vs Capcom 4. The majority of voters reportedly picked MvC4.

Boon recently reacted to rumors about NetherRealm's projects, which he labeled as false. In response to speculation about test sessions for Injustice 3 or other titles, he stated that a game not being tested externally does not mean it isn't in development.

In other crossover talk, Boon has previously said he'd rather see a Street Fighter vs Mortal Kombat game happen before a movie adaptation.
