Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth director pushes for a physical disc release
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth director Naoki Hamaguchi is campaigning for a box you can hold. According to reports from VGC and others, Hamaguchi confirmed he's actively working on arranging "some kind of physical edition" for the trilogy's final chapter, due in 2027.
The director told outlets it "would be a shame" if physical releases stopped. This push comes amid Sony's broader industry shift away from physical PlayStation discs, a fact noted by Eurogamer.
While Hamaguchi is advocating for a disc, Square Enix itself has yet to confirm a physical release for Rebirth. The game is still years out, so fans will have to wait to see if the director's philosophical stance translates to a plastic case on store shelves.
