Former Xbox Veteran Helen Chiang Breaks Silence On Sudden Exit

Helen Chiang, the former Xbox COO who left Microsoft abruptly after 21 years, has addressed the swirling rumors about her departure.

In a post on LinkedIn titled "Clarity is Kindness," a phrase linked to Xbox CEO Asha Sharma, Chiang refuted reports about her exit, according to Kotaku. She specifically denied being fired for a policy violation, as was previously reported by Eurogamer.

"That’s not accurate," Chiang wrote, per Kotaku's coverage. She stated she did not leak confidential information, join a competitor, or engage in any misconduct like harassment or fraud. She also said the COO role was not one she had actively sought.

Despite setting the record straight on what didn't happen, the veteran executive did not clarify the exact reason for her sudden departure. Microsoft, for its part, told Kotaku it does not discuss individual personnel matters.

Chiang's exit came just three months after a high-profile promotion during a major Xbox reorganization. Her final post concluded, "This is not how I ever imagined my story here would end. And it is not the whole story."
