HBO's True Detective Season 5 casts Nicolas Cage and Antonio Banderas

HBO is shaking up its anthology crime series, per MovieWeb, by reportedly aiming to recapture the magic of the show's first season. The plan involves a return to a core formula: starring two major film actors as the lead detective duo.
For the upcoming fifth season, the network has lined up Nicolas Cage and Antonio Banderas to take the central roles. Cage is set to play Detective Henry Logan, with Banderas as Detective Rai Garcia.
Issa López, who directed the fourth season, is on board to helm the new installment. The story will move the action to a new location, with the case unfolding in Jamaica Bay, New York.
The season is currently targeting a 2027 release. The casting is framed as a deliberate attempt to mirror the successful pairing of Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson from the show's debut.
