LEGO Astro Bot set leaks, sparking calls for a standalone release
New images have leaked of a special LEGO Astro Bot model that will be a free gift with the upcoming LEGO PlayStation set, per reports from Push Square and VGC. The 276-piece build features a posable robot character that hovers over a themed base. The design includes two sets of interchangeable eyes for different expressions.
According to the leaks, this bonus set is a 'gift with purchase' available only through the official LEGO online store. It will be bundled at no extra cost with the $179.99 LEGO PS1 model for a limited time after its October launch.
Fans seeing the detailed images are now clamoring for the Astro Bot to be sold separately. As Push Square notes, comment sections are filled with requests to buy it without needing to purchase the larger, pricier console set.
These promotional gift sets are rarely sold individually by LEGO and often end up resold at high prices on secondary markets. The outlet VGC points to a previous Pokémon-themed gift set that scalpers listed for hundreds of dollars.
The LEGO PlayStation set, which includes dioramas based on Gran Turismo and Ape Escape, is scheduled to release on October 1.
