Modern Warfare 4's new self-revive perk is already 'diabolical'

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4's DMZ mode just launched for pre-order players, and a single perk has the community in an uproar. According to Eurogamer, the 'Possum' trait allows players to revive themselves from death once per match, leaving them in a vulnerable 'Last Stand' state for about ten seconds before they can rejoin the fight, though they lose all their loot in the process.
The problem, players argue, is the element of surprise. There's no clear way to tell if a downed enemy has the trait, meaning any firefight win could be undone moments later. The perk is also reportedly quick to unlock by focusing on the 'Warfighter' progression path, making it widely accessible.
One player on the DMZ subreddit, quoted by Eurogamer, called the mechanic "garbage" that "breaks DMZ" by removing the stakes, forcing winners to guard corpses. Another raged, "Why the f**k would they add a perk like that to an extraction shooter?" Some have suggested counter-strategies like placing mines on dead bodies or simply leaving the area.
Prominent Call of Duty YouTubers have also weighed in, with Phixate reportedly calling the trait "completely broken." The early backlash centers on how Possum can suddenly erase a team's numbers advantage in the middle of a gunfight.
In other chaotic DMZ news, players have also been spawning directly in the middle of roads and getting run over immediately, per Eurogamer. Meanwhile, Push Square reports that Modern Warfare 4's full multiplayer suite has now unlocked early for all players, but initial feedback has been described as "brutal."
It's been a rocky first few days for the new Call of Duty's live-service offerings, with one new ability causing the biggest stir.
