Lord of the Rings Games Get Switch 2 Ports, Sparking PS5 Demand
Aspyr is bringing two Lord of the Rings games to the Switch 2, per Nintendo Life. The ports, Shadow of Mordor Game of the Year Edition and Shadow of War Definitive Edition, launch on September 30, 2026. They can be bought individually or together in a bundle called the Middle-earth: Shadow Bundle.
Pre-orders for the bundle are priced at $34.99, which the outlet notes is a 50% discount off the planned launch price. Shadow of Mordor will cost $9.99 at launch, down from $19.99, while Shadow of War will be $24.99, down from $49.99.
The ports include all previously released expansion content. For Shadow of Mordor, this means the 'Lord of the Hunt' and 'The Bright Lord' campaign expansions. The Shadow of War port includes story expansions like 'Desolation of Mordor' and 'Blade of Galadriel,' plus the Slaughter Tribe and Outlaw Tribe Nemesis expansions.
According to Push Square, the announcement has caused frustration among PlayStation fans, as the bundle is currently exclusive to the Switch 2. The outlet reports commenters are disappointed that these titles remain locked to older PlayStation hardware, where they run at 30 frames-per-second.
Push Square notes the games are praised for their Nemesis system but have never received a modern re-release or remaster for PS5. The sudden demand has led to speculation that Aspyr might be paying attention, but no other versions have been announced.
