Mass Effect Petition Surges Past 200,000 Signatures With Star Voice Support

A fan petition to save the Mass Effect franchise has blasted past 200,000 signatures, fueled by support from the series' iconic voice actors and an unlikely alliance with the Destiny community, per IGN.
The petition launched on Change.org after EA announced the closure of developer BioWare and the cancellation of the next Mass Effect game, reportedly titled Mass Effect Universe. The campaign calls for EA to either continue development with proper funding or license the IP to another studio, according to Eurogamer.
Key support came from the actors behind Commander Shepard. Jennifer Hale, voice of the female Shepard, posted a video imagining a fan-led effort to revive the series. Her male counterpart, Mark Meer, echoed the call, urging fans to 'sign that petition' and 'hold the line.'
In a surprising show of solidarity, the Destiny player community has also rallied behind the cause. This follows their own recent campaign regarding Destiny 2's development. Developer Owlcat Games also used its social media to promote the petition, IGN reports.
The petition's organizer, Joe Smith, states the goal is to show EA the significance of the series and secure its future. Kotaku adds that the campaign has now funded a billboard in Times Square.
