Netflix's FIFA World Cup game studio reportedly shuts down weeks after launch

Netflix's FIFA World Cup game studio reportedly shuts down weeks after launch

The studio behind Netflix's exclusive FIFA World Cup game is reportedly shutting its doors for good. According to reports from VGC and Polygon, Refractor Games, which made FIFA World Cup: Launch Edition, has seen nearly all of its staff laid off, just eight weeks after the game's release.

Staff claim that co-owner and publisher Delphi Interactive pulled funding and "pulled the plug" on the operation, per VGC. The game was met with poor reviews from players and critics alike.

This move follows a trend of rapid studio closures in the volatile mobile and licensed game space, leaving another project's future in serious doubt.
