New 'Alien' Movie from 'Prisoners' Writer Ties to Scott's Prequels

A new 'Alien' movie is officially in the works at 20th Century Studios, per multiple reports. According to The Hollywood Reporter and TheWrap, writer Aaron Guzikowski has been tapped to pen the script. Guzikowski is best known for writing 2013's 'Prisoners' and creating the sci-fi series 'Raised by Wolves' for HBO Max.
The project will be a creative reunion with Ridley Scott, who is producing via his Scott Free banner. Scott directed the first 'Alien' film in 1979 and recently helmed the prequels 'Prometheus' and 'Alien: Covenant'.
Crucially, as reported by THR, this new film is not a sequel to the recent 'Alien: Romulus'. Instead, it will connect directly to the storylines of Scott's last two films in the franchise. Plot details are being kept under wraps.
A major element linking the project to those prequels is the character of David, the android played by Michael Fassbender. David was a key figure in both 'Prometheus' and 'Alien: Covenant', which ended on a cliffhanger.
Ridley Scott is not currently set to direct the new movie, TheWrap notes, with the project in early development and no director attached. Scott will serve as a producer.
This new feature is separate from Noah Hawley's FX series 'Alien: Earth', which is currently filming. The movie news, first reported by THR, confirms the iconic sci-fi horror franchise is expanding on multiple fronts.
