Onimusha revival sells 1 million copies in a single day, Capcom eyes more dormant IPs
Capcom has another major hit on its hands. The company announced that Onimusha: Way of the Sword sold over one million copies on its first day, according to reports from IGN and Eurogamer.
This milestone also pushed lifetime sales for the entire Onimusha franchise over the 10 million mark. The new game marks the series' first major release in two decades.
Per Capcom's statement, the publisher credited marketing efforts like multiple demo releases and hands-on events for helping drive awareness and sales. The game is available on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series consoles, and the Nintendo Switch 2.
More notably, Capcom said it is now "focusing on re-activating IPs that haven’t had a new title launch recently." IGN speculates this could point to revivals for series like Dino Crisis, Ace Attorney, or Breath of Fire.
For comparison, Eurogamer notes that Capcom's new IP Pragmata hit one million sales in two days, while the recent Resident Evil Requiem sold five million in under a week. Nintendo Life reported that in the UK, the PS5 version accounted for 87% of early platform sales.
