PlayStation Fans Plan August 'Blackout' to Protest Sony's All-Digital Plan
A growing backlash against Sony's plan to kill physical PlayStation discs is taking a drastic turn. According to IGN, critics are calling for a full week-long boycott of PlayStation in August, urging gamers to power down their consoles to send a message.
Organizers, dubbed PSBlackout, are asking owners to unplug their PS5s and refrain from buying or logging into any PlayStation content from August 23 to August 30, per Kotaku. This follows massive social media pushback and fan petitions since Sony announced it would end disc manufacturing and sales by 2028, as reported by Eurogamer.
Push Square claims Sony has run out of goodwill with its most loyal fans, framing the disc decision as a final straw. Whether the protest will gain enough traction to make Sony listen remains the big question.
