Resident Evil 5's 15-year reign as franchise sales champ is over

Capcom has officially confirmed a major shift in the Resident Evil franchise's financial throne. After a 15-year run, Resident Evil 5 is no longer the series' top-selling game.

According to the publisher's latest earnings report, detailed by Polygon, the remake of Resident Evil 2 has officially surpassed it. The 2019 horror remake has now sold 19.75 million copies, dethroning the long-reigning champ.
