Robert De Niro Could Play Dodgers Legend Tommy Lasorda in New Biopic
Robert De Niro may soon be stepping into the baseball dugout. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the actor is in negotiations to portray Tommy Lasorda, the iconic former skipper of the Los Angeles Dodgers, in an upcoming project.
The film is currently using the placeholder name 'Tommy & Me.' Per the outlet, Reid Carolin, who directed 'Dog,' is set to helm the picture for Skydance Sports.
While the plot remains under wraps, Carolin is co-writing the screenplay with George Gallo and Cambron Clark. Lasorda, who passed away in 2021, was synonymous with the Dodgers organization for over seventy years, serving as a player, scout, coach, and manager.
MovieWeb also reports the talks, noting De Niro would be playing a real-life sports legend. The outlet outlines Lasorda's Hall of Fame career, which included managing the Dodgers from 1976 to 1996 and winning two World Series championships.
De Niro's next on-screen appearance is in the comedy 'Focker-in-Law,' scheduled for release this November.
