Roblox games will soon be available as standalone apps

Roblox games will soon be available as standalone apps

Roblox games are about to break out of the walled garden. The company announced Roblox Everywhere, a new initiative that will let creators export their games as standalone apps for PC, console, and mobile, per PC Gamer. This means popular titles could soon be available on storefronts outside the Roblox platform itself.

A Roblox representative told PC Gamer that getting these games onto major storefronts like Steam is the ultimate goal, though details are still being worked out. The company plans to start with a select group of developers and platforms for testing.

Kotaku reports the move is part of a broader push to expand Roblox's reach. The platform also announced that by the end of the year, players will be able to join games directly from a web browser, starting with Chrome, with no app download required. Cross-play between these new standalone apps and the main Roblox client will be enabled by default.

Other upcoming features include better tools for offline play, new development options for 2D games, and generative AI tools for scene creation. Roblox also announced a Roblox-branded credit card, slated for a 2027 rollout, which the company says will offer discounts on its in-game currency.

The initiative marks a notable shift, as traditional publishers have increasingly launched games on Roblox. Now, Roblox is looking to send its biggest hits back in the other direction.
