Sarah Michelle Gellar Shades Hulu Over Cancelled Buffy Reboot at Emmys
Sarah Michelle Gellar took a playful shot at Hulu during the 2026 Emmy Awards, per MovieWeb. While presenting an award with former co-star David Boreanaz, the conversation turned to their iconic characters, Buffy and Angel.
Gellar quipped about not knowing if the vampire-slaying couple would have ended up together, adding, "Well, I guess we won't find out!" The line drew laughter and applause from the audience, seemingly referencing Hulu's decision to cancel a planned reboot.
The revival, titled 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer: New Sunnydale', was a legacy sequel set to feature Ryan Kiera Armstrong as a new slayer, with Gellar returning in a mentor role. Hulu pulled the plug after filming a complete pilot, which executives reportedly deemed "not perfect."
During the presentation, Gellar and Boreanaz also marked the upcoming 30th anniversary of the original series. Gellar acknowledged it had been a "tough two years" for the 'Buffy' family, paying tribute to late cast members Nicholas Brendon, Anthony Head, and Michelle Trachtenberg.
