Sebastian Stan Dismisses 'Fjord' MAGA Label, Says 'Batman 2' Feels Epic
Sebastian Stan is hitting back at early social media labels for his new film. In an interview with Variety, the actor said people are calling his movie 'Fjord' a 'MAGA movie' without having seen it.
The film, directed by Cristian Mungiu, stars Stan as a fundamentalist father whose children are taken by the state. Stan told Variety the project, which explores the immigrant experience, is one he's wanted to make since he was a teenager.
He also opened up about working on the DC sequel 'The Batman: Part II' with director Matt Reeves. Per Variety, Stan described the set experience, saying he sometimes looks around and feels they are crafting something on the monumental scale of a classic crime saga sequel.
At the Toronto International Film Festival, Stan also criticized a culture of negativity. According to The Hollywood Reporter, he said the 'invitation to be negative... starts at the top' and lamented lazy online reactions.
He connected this to the themes of 'Fjord,' which he says asks how to raise children in today's world. THR notes the film, which won the Palme d'Or, is set for an October 9 release.
