Bill Hader Voices The Cat in the Hat in New Animated Warner Bros Movie
Bill Hader is suiting up again as Dr. Seuss's famous feline, but this time for a full-length animated feature. He provides the voice of the titular Cat in Warner Bros Pictures Animation's new film, The Hollywood Reporter confirms.
At the Los Angeles premiere, Hader noted his version here is a "much different version" than the adult take he performed in a 2014 Saturday Night Live sketch. He also admitted to never having seen Mike Myers' 2003 live-action adaptation.
Co-writer and director Erica Rivinoja praised Hader's range, telling The Hollywood Reporter, "He's the funniest, best voice actor ever. He's also a really good emotional actor." Co-director Alessandro Carloni added that Hader's acting chops helped the cat feel like more than just a clown.
Hader himself joked about the demanding recording sessions, saying the work was exhausting and left him needing a nap after each one.
The film expands beyond the original book's plot, which Rivinoja said only covers the first few minutes. The story follows where the cat goes after his famous visit. The voice cast also includes Quinta Brunson, America Ferrera, Matt Berry, and Bowen Yang. The Cat in the Hat is set to open in theaters on November 6.
