Spider-Man: Brand New Day scores sixth straight weekend at number one
Spider-Man: Brand New Day has clinched the top spot at the domestic box office for a sixth consecutive weekend. Variety reports the Sony/Marvel film earned $18 million over the traditional weekend, with a four-day holiday estimate of $23.3 million.
According to TheWrap, that pushes the film's domestic total to an estimated $923 million. Per JoBlo, it is now just shy of the $936 million domestic record set by Star Wars: The Force Awakens and is expected to surpass it within the week. Globally, the film has crossed $2.4 billion.
Universal's The Odyssey held strong in second place. Per TheWrap, it added an estimated $17 million over the four-day weekend, bringing its domestic total to $588 million. JoBlo notes it dipped only 9% from the prior weekend.
In third place, Coyote vs. Acme showed strong staying power with a $11.3 million weekend, a drop of just 29%. The film's total now stands at $33 million domestically, per JoBlo.
The sole newcomer in the top five was Paramount's By Any Means, which opened to an estimated $9.1 million over four days, according to TheWrap. Rounding out the top five was Insidious: Out of the Further, which added $8.1 million over the holiday frame.
