Spider-Man: Brand New Day snatches the all-time domestic box office crown
The wall-crawler has officially dethroned a galaxy far, far away. Per Variety, "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" has surpassed "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" to become the highest-grossing movie ever at the domestic box office.
Variety reports the film's North American total has now reached $936.773 million, eclipsing the $936 million record held by the 2015 Star Wars sequel for over a decade.
Globally, Sony and Marvel's latest Spidey adventure has pulled in a colossal $2.45 billion, making it the third-highest grossing film worldwide, according to both Variety and /Film.
Collider notes the movie scored a record-breaking domestic opening weekend of $360.1 million and a staggering global launch of $932 million. The film is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and stars Tom Holland, who is returning as Peter Parker in a world that has forgotten his identity.
The achievement marks a major win for Marvel, which, as Variety points out, had a rough 2025 with commercial disappointments like "Captain America: Brave New World."
