Street Fighter Movie Director Explains 'Gonzo' Over Gritty Approach

The director of the 'Street Fighter' movie says he specifically avoided a gritty and grounded tone.
Kitao Sakurai told GameSpot he intentionally pursued a "gonzo" style for the video game adaptation, favoring over-the-top action and inherent silliness.
He pointed to an absurdity within the world and how its characters interact as a core part of the film's identity.
Sakurai noted that producer Cale Boyter at Legendary Entertainment was supportive of this distinctive, less serious direction from the very beginning of the project.
